But this instrument can’t do half the tasks that Google Ads can (previously called Google AdWords) Keyword Planner can. We’ll take a look at some.

What is a Google Keyword Planner?

Your website or blog can benefit from using Google Keyword Planner, a free online tool that helps you research and analyze keywords. The tool can be used to find new keywords related to your product or business and give you content marketing

You’ll need to create a Google Ads account to use Google Keyword Planner. Once you’re signed in, click “Tools” at the top of the page, then select “Keyword Planner.” You can search for new keywords based on your business goals.

Google Keyword Planner is a valuable tool for any business owner or marketer looking to improve their online presence. With its help, you can easily find new keywords to target and get ideas for improving your website or blog content.

What Can Keyword Planner Do?

It will allow you to:

  • Find out how many searches each keyword idea gets each month

You can view their metrics even if you already have a list of keywords.

Get the exact search volume

When using Google Keyword Planner, the average monthly search volume is typically displayed as a wide range:

There is a vast difference between 10,000 and 100,000, so that’s a bit annoying.

A life hack for using Keyword Planner has, however, been discovered by savvy users.

  1. Choose the keyword whose search volume you want to know
  2. On the “Add to Plan” screen, click the blue button
  3. From the left-hand menu, click “Plan Overview.”

In the table that appears, you will see your selected keyword. You need to pay attention to the Impressions column.

We currently receive more traffic than three weeks ago when this keyword became more popular. Now that we can see that 1,886 is quite a bit closer to 1,000 than 10,000, it will be easier to monitor that keyword and prevent this from reoccurring.

This degree of precision can be advantageous to your marketing plans and budget.

Find keywords related to a website.

For that keyword planner won’t be helpful to you. It provides you with alternatives that very closely resemble your search phrase.

Let’s assume, for illustration, that your company sells t-shirts. Here you can see what searches retrieve with the seed t-shirt.

Many search results you’re seeking are generic, and you will likely be contemplating t-shirts.

Let’s try a different approach. Instead of starting with Start with Keywords, let’s use Start with a Website and enter the URL of a competitor. In this example and competitor that competitor is teepublic.com.

The lights-up long-tail keyword that matters less is now added to the new keyword list we get.

As you can observe, this method is a very effective and beneficial tool in uncovering search terms your competitors rank for, which you would not have otherwise.

  1. After downloading the data, I usually like to make a Google Sheet.
  2. Click on the download button after you have activated all relevant filters.
  3. Go to Google Sheets and select it
  4. This data can also be downloaded as a CSV file.
  5. It is possible to edit the file name for the Google Sheets download option and specify where the file should be saved in your drive.
  6. Click on the Download button to finish.
  7. We’ll create a filter for our data once we’ve opened and cleaned up the spreadsheet.
  8. Click on Create a filter after selecting all using Ctrl+A or Cmd+A.
  9. Every cell in our headings row will now have a filter button. To determine which keywords will receive the most traffic, let’s rank our data by the search volume.
  10. To sort by the average monthly searches, click the filters button beside this heading, then choose Sort Z → A.

We arrange our data in decreasing order

based on the average search volume.

Using the highest average monthly search keyword is challenging because their search volume tends to be very high (typically 10,000).

Ensure you are working with keywords your target audience is searching for. Over time, you will eventually learn which keywords are the ones your audience is most actively searching for; from there, your work should be focused on these.

There are many other ways Keyword Planner can be utilized. We can build campaigns from forecast keywords on a specific keyword plan and create targeted ads for it.

Adding keywords to your keyword plan is done by going to the Saved keywords tab and clicking on +Keywords.

It would help if you also explored other possibilities offered by Google Keyword Planner, such as volume forecasts and other features we’ve not included in this basic primer on how to use it.

Last but not least, I will highlight a few free keyword research alternatives.

A different tool called Soovle is followed a lot like what we are doing right now. By typing a keyword that interests you in the center, Soovle generates keyword ideas that can be used for search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and YouTube.

“AnswerThePublic” is a popular alternative tool for “Questions.” It gives us “compare,” “prepositions,” “related keywords,” and “general questions” that relate to what we type in.

Type your keyword into the search box on the website, then click on Search.

The questions highlighted in the results section contain distinct variations of the phrase used in the remarketing keyword you entered. Clicking on any of them reveals a drop-down menu with related questions on those topics.

For each group, we have the starting point in common, with the least frequent one getting lighter as it goes along.

This tool also includes keyword ideas we can use in our Google Ads campaigns. It has more content creation ideas as well.

Here are the features of these two tools, which are less extensive than Keyword Planner. Considering these tools and Keyword Planner will be effective when researching keywords.

Keyword Planner Can Do All of These Things Except

Show Indications of Trends

Experienced advertisers know how beneficial it is to find existing trends online. Unfortunately, the Google Keyword Planner tool doesn’t show trending keyword searches, as the product of a keyword search is displayed based on traffic levels over the last 12 months.

Additionally to these tools, you can also work with other tools like these. Here are some that you might know of.

  • Using Keyword Tool (it’s cool because you can search for trends across multiple popular platforms, including Google search, YouTube, Instagram, and even Amazon)
  • You can get additional metrics with Wordtracker, such as “In Anchor and Title” counts, which Google Trends does not provide.
  • Trending on Buzzfeed (see what’s trending)
  • (Check out Reddit’s front page to see what’s popular)

Provide Quality Score Estimates

Since Keyword Planner doesn’t understand which keywords correspond with which landing page of yours, it can’t provide you Quality Scores estimates. To see those scores, you must access the Google Ads platform separately.

Multiply Keyword Lists

An AdWords keyword planner function used to have an option to modify the list of keywords by appending them to each other. Formerly, using this AdWords tool, you could generate a variety of permutations because you could multiply the keyword lists. However, this specific functionality is no longer part of the Keyword Planner.

Show Specific Desktop and Mobile Traffic Data

In the past, limiting search query volume to individual device types (such as a computer or phone) was possible. Be sure to keep this in mind to optimize your website and landing pages for delivery to the same device types as the most common.

Although Google AdWords neared the date when this helpful feature was taken away, you can still use Google Analytics for this information.

Google Keyword Planner: Why Advertisers Should Use It?

It provides advertisers with a quick and easy way to complete the construction of the Ad Groups and Ad Campaigns needed by their company. A keyword is just the bit of HTML code the answer is to be entered into to find the ideal choices. You need to set out the keywords likely to be specific to your organization.

Google’s free query search tool allows you to advertise on a variety of text-based platforms:

Search Ads:

These ads appear next to web search engine results. Quite frankly, these are very effective at search query resolution. For example, a New York City plumber will generate many results. You will arrive at the landing page by simply clicking one of them.

Display Ads:

You might think the best way to convey a piece of information to social media users is via a website, an app, or text. One way to play on networks is to get text, image, or video ads on sites or apps with a relatively large number of users. Digital mediums that have a lot of users, better like the ads than followers in apps, are suitable, as the display ads incorporate banner ads, integrated ads, and even rich media ads.

Video Ads:

Your company’s name will become known to many YouTube viewers when they search for videos to watch on it. Your organization’s sales will increase as more people search for your business and find your content.
